On 12/23/08, The Monitor published a news article by Brian Sandalow entitled, Weisgerber dealing with post-concussion syndrome. The article states:
“Weisgerber, who suffered a concussion on a hit from Wichita's Curtiss Patrick on Nov. 29, is still suffering headaches and is coping with post-concussion syndrome. He said he has "no idea" when he will be able to return.”
The article was written less than one month after Weisgerber was injured. The MTBIFacts article on the three month time frame issue shows why the term “post concussion syndrome” should not be used less than three months post-injury. On 12/28/08, a correction was posted to the website and an email has been sent to the author. Mr. Sandalow replied the same day that he was reporting the information the team provided him. He was asked who provided him this information and to please pass on information to the team regarding the correct terminology. The organization for the Killer Bees hockey team was also contacted on 12/28/08 in this regard. No response has been forthcoming. Click here to return to media watch.
Dr. Carone offers paid lectures on MTBI, “post concussion syndrome,” and symptom validity testing upon request. He can be contacted at info@mtbifacts.com.
